Skills for Life

For those of you that prefer the practical aspects of education, the government has introduced skills for life. Recognising that many individuals have little interest in the Maths and English portion of a syllabus they have introduced a basic training qualification that promises to bring you up to speed on your grammar, spelling and times tables, teaching you facts and figures that you will apply in real life.(also known as basic skills) are qualifications that have been introduced by the government in order to help adults improve the skills that they use in their daily lives and help boost confidence in their abilities.

The courses have been designed to help people brush up on reading, writing, numeracy, ICT and communication aspects of life, ensuring you can write a great CV, or face the fear of the figures without fainting!
It can also act as a springboard to further studies, so if you’ve decided academic training is for you, then this will help you on your way.
Criteria
To take the skills for life course you need to be over sixteen years of age and have left full time education without a Maths or English GCSE or NQF Level 2.

On successful completion of this easy to manage course you will be awarded a nationally recognized “Skills for Life” Certificate, which will aid you with the everyday aspects of Maths and English as well as giving you the tools you need to further advance your training. |

What subjects do they cover?

What levels of study are on offer?
Learners can choose from a number of levels to suit their individual needs.

Entry Level, (there are 3 courses at the entry level, with ICT only available at this level)

How will the learners be assessed and tested?
Testing depends on the level of qualification chosen.
At entry level learners are tested through a series of tasks which will be assessed by qualified tutors.
At levels 1 and 2, learners will take the National Basic Skills test. This consists of multiple choice questions covering literacy and numeracy and is taken either on paper or using a computer.
